Welcome to eatlikeayogi.com! I’m so happy to finally launch this site; it’s been a long time in the making…
Eat Like a Yogi was born in my Berkeley apartment in 2009 as a small seed of a cookbook. I was unemployed at the time—funemployed, really—which meant that I had hours every day to spend as I pleased. I had recently become interested in raw food, which can be somewhat time consuming in terms of preparation. But I had plenty of time, so I taught myself the basics of soaking, sprouting, and dehydrating, and a passion was born. I started creating recipes, immersed myself in food culture, and wrote a business plan for the restaurant I dreamed of opening.
In the years that followed, life took its turns. I moved back to Seattle, had two pregnancies, got married, started a business, sold one house, bought another house, and adopted two dogs. Somewhere within that time, I spilled a cup of green tea on my computer keyboard and it appeared to die. With other things now consuming my focus, it seemed Eat Like a Yogi was lost forever.
Last summer, my husband found that old computer. He tested it out and—lo and behold, the keyboard worked! He hacked my password and—TA-DA! Just like that, Eat Like a Yogi was born again (along with hundred of pictures from my twenties that were very hilarious to rediscover…).
Since then, Eat Like a Yogi has taken on a life of its own. I began to work on it again as a cookbook, but quickly realized a cookbook was going to need a website. If I was creating a website, it seemed natural that site would have a blog. “Okay,” I thought. “I guess I’m starting a food blog.”
But the more time I spend on Eat Like a Yogi, the more ideas I have, and the bigger it gets. Here are a few of the topics I am thinking about as we get underway…
- Nutrient spotlights
- Restaurant reviews
- Tips for healthy travel
- Service initiatives
- Cleansing
- Yogi interviews
- Food allergies
- Product reviews
- Meal planning
- Ayurveda/seasonal eating
- Food & diet trends
- Yogi book club
- Cooking techniques
- Ask a yogi…
- Macrobiotic cooking
- Yoga & diet for specific conditions
- Guest bloggers
- Etc!
There is so much to explore! But it’s all rather meaningless without you. My intention and fervent hope for Eat Like a Yogi is to create a community of like-minded people who care about themselves, the planet, and each other. This is a place to learn, affirm, support, discover, experiment, connect, and grow.
So please: participate! Comment with ideas for posts, try out the recipes, let me know about a weird ingredient you discover, email me a question of something yoga- or food-related that you always wanted to know about, or send in your own awesome recipe for a guest feature. Let’s build this site together to serve the greater good of every person who lands here, no matter who they are, what they eat, or how long they have been doing yoga.
Yoga is for every body, and so is Eat Like a Yogi.
Better together,
Melinda
